What food poisoning is and common causes
Food poisoning results from bacteria (for example Salmonella, Campylobacter), viruses (such as norovirus), parasites or toxins present in food. Common causes include undercooking, cross‑contamination, inadequate refrigeration and poor hand or kitchen hygiene. Symptoms can begin within hours or several days depending on the agent and the amount ingested.
