What is snoring and how does it occur?
Snoring happens when airflow through the nose and mouth causes soft tissues in the upper airway—such as the soft palate, uvula or tongue base—to vibrate. Reduced muscle tone during sleep, nasal congestion, or anatomical differences can narrow the airway and increase vibration. Snoring intensity often varies with sleep position, commonly worsening when lying on the back.
