What is ringing in the ear?
Tinnitus describes hearing sounds such as ringing, buzzing, humming, clicking, whistling or a pulsing sensation when no external noise is present. Most tinnitus is subjective (heard only by the person affected); objective tinnitus, which can sometimes be detected by an examiner, is less common. The sound quality and impact vary between people and can affect concentration and sleep.
