Typical evaluation can include physical examination, urine testing, blood tests and, when indicated, penile ultrasound to assess blood flow and tissue changes.
Seek urgent medical attention if pain is severe, an erection lasts many hours, there is marked colour change of the penis, a high fever, heavy bleeding, or altered consciousness. These situations require timely assessment at an emergency department. For non‑urgent situations, consult your primary care clinician or a urologist to arrange appropriate tests and follow‑up.
