Common causes
Several everyday factors can darken urine: concentrated urine from low fluid intake, certain foods (for example beets or berries), food dyes, vitamins or supplements, and menstrual blood contamination. Medical causes include urinary tract infections, liver or biliary conditions that increase bilirubin, and some kidney problems. Color alone does not establish a diagnosis; associated symptoms help clarify the cause.
