What is dandruff?
Dandruff is visible flaking from the scalp caused by more rapid shedding of dead skin cells than normal. Flakes can look dry and powdery or appear oilier and more noticeable. While dandruff is usually not a serious disease, similar flakes can occur with conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis—so persistent or changing signs may warrant a clinical check.
