Common causes and which structures are involved
Pain in the foot may originate from bone, joint, muscle, tendon, ligament or nerve. Frequent causes include overuse and strain, plantar fasciitis and heel spur related soft‑tissue problems, deformities such as bunions (hallux valgus), corns and pressure lesions, stress fractures and nerve entrapments. Systemic conditions such as diabetes or circulatory disease can also cause pain, numbness or altered sensation in the feet.
