Possible causes and how they differ
Facial weakness may originate from peripheral nerve injury (for example Bell palsy), which often affects the whole side of the face, or from central causes (such as stroke), which typically spare certain forehead muscles. Other causes include infections, head trauma, tumors, nerve compression, and neuromuscular disorders. Systemic infections or immune reactions can also alter facial movement.
