Common causes of finger pain
Pain in a finger can come from direct injury (sprain, fracture, crush), joint inflammation (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis), tendon issues (tendinitis, tenosynovitis), nerve compression or neuropathy, localized skin or joint infections, and metabolic conditions such as gout. The pattern—sudden vs. gradual onset, presence of numbness, swelling, redness or stiffness—helps narrow the likely cause.
