What is tooth sensitivity?
Tooth sensitivity causes brief, sharp discomfort when specific stimuli reach the tooth’s inner layers. When enamel thins or gum tissue recedes, dentin and its microscopic channels can be exposed and react to temperature, chemicals or touch. Sensitivity can be intermittent or persistent depending on the cause.
