How people describe it and common accompanying symptoms
People often report a sudden darkening or a ‘curtain’ moving across one side of their vision. This may be accompanied by flashes of light, new floaters (specks or cobwebs), a sudden drop in sharpness of vision, or a grey/black shadow affecting part of the visual field. Most often it affects one eye but can rarely be perceived in both.
