Common causes and typical features
Dental problems often cause localized, tooth-related pain that may radiate to the jaw. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues tend to cause jaw stiffness, clicking or pain with opening and closing. Sinus-related pain commonly produces pressure or aching in the upper jaw and face. In some cases, pain is referred from neck muscles, nerves or, rarely, from cardiac or neurological sources.
