What radiation oncology is and its goals
Radiation oncology uses high-energy radiation to limit tumor growth or destroy cancer cells in a specific area. Goals include achieving local control of the disease, supporting outcomes when combined with surgery or systemic treatments, and easing local symptoms such as pain or bleeding. Treatment decisions are made by a multidisciplinary team that reviews imaging and pathology.
