What dementia is and how it progresses
Dementia describes a group of conditions that cause lasting problems with cognition rather than a single disease. It can affect memory, attention, language, problem-solving and orientation. Different types of dementia have different patterns; some change slowly over years, others may progress more quickly. Behaviour, mood and, in some forms, movement may also be affected.
