What is constipation and when does it occur?
In children, constipation usually means less frequent bowel movements than usual or hard, difficult-to-pass stools. Normal stool frequency varies with age — some infants stool many times a day while older children may go every few days. Changes such as starting solids, toilet training, travel or emotional stress can make constipation more likely.
